 Alysen and kids

Across the Pond Ministries was set in 2005 up by Alysen Merril who is currently working as Missionary and Outreach worker with Central Avenue. She is a graduate of Kentucky Christian University and was a member of the original 2003 Summer Team. She now helps the National Leadership Team with recruiting teams for various mission activities in the UK with our churches.

Thoughts from Alysen July 2006

The last month has been a busy one!  Beginning the month was my ordination.  What a time of blessing and encouragement this one! Thank you to all who was present and who has encouraged me along the way in this, it is a honour to serve among the Christian churches here in the UK.

Next the team and I participated in what is called Ncounter.  This was a local mission training week for ages 14-18.  Every day started with worship and teaching, with lunch following as a whole group.  The afternoon consisted of the churches returning to their own area and them then serving in some way.   One day we prayer walked, the next litter picked, and still another played a game of football with some kids in a park.  Throughout each day, we would invite kids to come to the youth café each evening.  The relationships and contacts that we saw every night were amazing.  I loved the chance to teach and be involved with this week – it was great to see!

I just returned from my summer school for the Together in Mission masters I’m taking.  The time away was refreshing and challenging.  We has over 24 hours of teaching, worship, and fellowship with many people from many countries.  I came back feeling like I had been to church camp all week! J

The team just finished today the Holiday Club that they ran.  Once again, they have served and learned in such a magnificent way.  They planned everything and did a great job.  More to come on this!

I’ve loved the variety and opportunities of this summer but am looking forward to the “normalcy” of this approaching school term.  It will be good to settle back into a routine of sorts.  It’s been a great blessing for this church and community to have the team – and for me personally as well.  I’ve been encouraged much and taught much by them!
