Our Journey
Central Avenue Christian Church came into being as Wigston Church of Christ in 1980, following the dissolution of the old Association of Churches of Christ of Great Britain and Ireland.
The church in Wigston arose from those members from the old Rosemead Drive church in Oadby who did not wish to join the new United Reformed Church. Rosemead Drive which along with Saffron Lane and Canal Street Churches of Christ, did join the United Reformed Church. To start with, the church met in the home of the Reverend Alan Robinson in Oadby before purchasing a building in Wigston in Junction Road (next to Sainsburys). The church building was eventually sold (and demolished) and the current building in Central Avenue was purchased when the congregation outgrew the original building. The building in Central Avenue had previously been home to Wigston Pentecostal Church which moved into the centre of Wigston. Since moving in, the building has been modified and added to wiht the congregation building a coffee bar, a new worship centre and rear hall.
