A Warm Welcome | News | Verse of the Day | Message of the Week | Message of the week Sunday 25 July 2010God uses unusual people During July we are studying the Book of Judges and how God raised up some pretty remarkable and brave people in ancient Israel (the Judges) to save His people from oppression. The most amazing thing about these people though (Deborah and Gideon for example), was that were not really amazing at all! They were normal, unremarkable people who doubted they could offer anything to God. No one else thought they were remarkable before tehy served God and saved His people. They were not remarkable in any way, except one. They trusted God and did what He asked them to do, trusting in His power, not their own. They even took time to put their trust fully in God, but He still used them! God chose people and continues to choose people, not on their physical appearance, social position, talents, qualifications or status, but on their faith in Him. After all, its God who provides the power to overcome. So, if you feel unremarkable, untalented, don't feel you are in the right social circles, don't have a fancy title, think you lack the qualifications to do God's work, you couldn't be further from the truth. Be warned, you are just the sort of person God can use to change a community or a nation! If you put your faith and trust in Him and His power to overcome. How exciting is that! Samson did have a lot of potential and amazing gifts from God, but he misused his talents and got in a lot of hot water because of it. Even then, God was still able to use him to great effect when Samson finally realised he needed to turn back to God. So, even when we make a total muck up of our lives, God can still use us if we turn back to Him.
