Sunday School/Junior Church Teacher
Introduction: The children and young people are not only the furture of the church and the only hope for the church surviving into the next generation, they are also the church now! The young people need to be made to feel safe and welcome in the church and to be integrated into the life of the church.
General Duties:
- planning the lesson in line with the curriculum supplied by the church
- collecting and preparing the materials for the lesson
- delivering the lesson
- helping the children during the lesson
- setting up the class room and packing up afterwards
- disciplining the children in line with church policy
- acting as cover for other Sunday School Teachers in an emmergency
- being responsible for informing the Sunday School Leader if you are unable to make your commitment
Qualifications/Giftings: Teaching experience is an advantage but not necessary. You must be passionate about working with young people and communicating the Gospel to them in words, actions and lifestyle.
Attributes: Good with young people! Good communicator. Good general Biblical knowledge. Good team player and willing to learn.
Commitment required: Once a month as part of a rota (possibly as cover for others)
Reports to: Sunday School Leader
Probationary Period: 3 months
Duration: 2 years (renewable)
Notes: This post requires a CRB check. If you work regularly with the children, eg if you continue after the probationary period, you will need a CRB check. If you only help out occasionally for example as cover, and less than once a month you won't. (Subject to changes in legislation)
You must be a regular church attender and must have been attending the church for a minimum of 6 months to be able to apply. You will be committed to the life, aims and work of the church in building God's kingdom.
Sunday School/Junior Church Assistant
Introduction: The children and young people are not only the future of the church and the only hope for the church surviving into the next generation, they are also the church now! - assisting the Sunday School Teacher in delivering the lesson
- helping the children during the lesson
- helping to set up the class room and packing up afterwards
- helping the Sunday School Teacher with discipline in line with church policy
- acting as cover for other Sunday School Assistants if they are unavailable
- being responsible for informing the Sunday School Teacher if you are unable to make your commitment
Qualifications/Giftings: No specific qualifications are required but you must be passionate about working with young people.
Attributes: Good with young people! Good communicator. Good team player and willing to learn.
Commitment required: Once a month (possibly as cover for others)
